Release of Claims

Release of claims

Pricing: $190

Delivery Timeline: Next Day

A General Release of all Claims (referred to as a Liability Release) is designed for use by a person (the “Releasor”) to release all claims against another individual or company (the “Releasee”). This legal document will safeguard against possible future problems when settling a claim for minor vehicle property damage, minor property damage, damage as a result of a pet or a minor, etc.

The Release of Claims is also known as:

  1. Liability Waiver

  2. Waiver of Liability

  3. Waiver

  4. Release of Liability Form

  5. Release Forms (liability, not claims)

What Type of Businesses Use Release of Claims?

A wide range of businesses use this legal document but most commonly those that include physical activities as part of their daily operations.

Businesses that Requires Physical Activities: A volunteer organization or company that provides physical activities that could lead to injury often require participants (or their parents/guardians) to sign waivers. Activities may include dance classes, zip-lining, swimming, rock climbing, river rafting, battling cages, and more.

Businesses that Provide Travel Services: If you provide travel services, you may also want to require your customers to sign a waiver. Travel services may include travel planning, bus tours, walking tours, party buses, river cruises, and so on.

Businesses that Organize Events or Festivals: Events that often require participants to sign a Release of Claim include marathons, fun runs, bike races, festivals, sports tournaments, corporate team building events, and more.

The releasor should be cautious before signing a General Release of all Claims as it releases the other party from all claims and not just one specific claim.

There are some injuries that a Release of Claims won’t protect you from, namely negligence on your part. A Release of Claims does not prevent you from being sued, but it does shift some of the ‘burden of proof’ reasonability to the injured party. Provincial laws vary on how strongly claims are enforced; you may want to ask our lawyers to review your Release of Claims before you use it.
